The Keep, 2025

Large, rugged, textured monolith. This is an extra large sculptural vase in extra coarse black stoneware. It has a commanding presence and is an ideal piece of large ceramic art for any room. This work centres around the core theme of my work, which is Wabi Sabi, to embrace imperfection. It explores the textural landscape of this clay, and it celebrates its natural beauty. It it mostly unglazed, allowing the white flecks of grog and the rugged terrain of the clay to provide its own decoration. The blue glaze at the base symbolises water, as if this huge structure stands alone in the ocean. battered by the waves.
